A phobia is a persistent, irrational fear of something. Phobias are classified as a type of anxiety disorder, and are treatable with hypnosis.
Phobias concerning animals, insects and birds are very common; the most common being dogs, cats, mice, wasps, and spiders. Many people are embarrassed about the issue and therefore do not seek treatment.
A young woman came to see me with a debilitating fear of mice. Her boyfriend’s live-in siblings kept mice as pets, so her phobia was obviously putting a strain on her relationship, ultimately making her life difficult at best. To make matters worse, the owners of the mice teased her about her phobia.
After one session the fear had virtually gone; after the second session the client was totally comfortable with the idea of mice and confident to the extent of not being bothered by the pet mice she saw in her boyfriend’s house.
