Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) inflicts suffering in the forms of chronic gastric pain, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, nausea, indigestion and gas. It is common for IBS patients to experience long bouts of constipation ending in sudden diarrhoea – making life more stressful than it needs to be. Ironically, the condition is stress-related.

The good news is that IBS is treatable. Dr George Lewith, referring to Dr. Peter Whorewell, a consultant gastroenterologist at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, notes in his book Natural Born Healers that hypnosis is an effective method of treating IBS.

How Hypnosis Can Help

Studies have shown that the vast majority of IBS sufferers respond to hypnosis. Hypnosis can be used to tackle IBS from a variety of directions, resulting in successful treatment:

  • Reduce stress

  • Develop coping strategies

  • Relieve pain

  • Eliminate need for muscle relaxing drugs

GP Referral

A doctor’s referral is essential in ruling out diagnosis of other bowel conditions.
